DANK Haus - The Music of Doris Day: A Concert by Laura Freeman
Join us on Thursday, September 2nd at 7:00pm for this Sentimental Journey through the music of Doris Day!

Doris Day passed away in 2019 at the age of 97.
To celebrate her amazing life, Chicago cabaret favorite, Laura Freeman will host a celebration of her music. A regular performer at such Chicago sights as; The Auditorium Theatre, The Park West, Davenports Piano Bar, Freedom Hall and the Chicago Cultural Center, Miss Freeman…”becomes the character reflected in the song. It shines in her face, in her voice, and above all, in her heart.” (Carla Gordon, Cabaret Scenes).Who better to highlight this singer’s journey? Having recorded over 600 songs, Day is known for such hits as Sentimental Journey, Secret Loveand Everybody Loves a Lover. Doris was not just a pretty voice and a pratfall. She represents the spirit of us all, at various times in history. She was the voice of the returning service men from World War II. She was the voice of the early women’s lib movement, representing single career woman everywhere. She was also the voice of a grieving gay community, at the height of the AIDS crisis. Her rendition of My Buddy, sung for her friend Rock Hudson, was used to say goodbye to sons, brothers and lovers in the early 80’s.

This event will take place on the 5th floor of the DANK Haus and is generously sponsored by John Bareither. There is no cost to attend, however all donations are greatly appreciated.

Chicago has a unique place in the history of cabaret, being the first American city to nurture hundreds of clubs with the intimate and often improvised entertainment first found in Paris in the 1880s. This two-part series is free to the public and made possible by a grant from Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

Never before has there been a collection of Chicago‘s African American singers, Parisian Cabaret, LGBTQIA artists, and the classic American standards all coming together to celebrate 100 Years of Chicago Cabaret!

Evan Dolan presents "Just Because..."

Back in 2017 BroadwayWorld.com wrote the following: “Evan Dolan, who won the Best New Artist Award (10th Annual Metropolitan Room MetroStar Competition), was old beyond his years, earning comparisons to Danny Kaye and Fred Astaire.” Well four years have passed with one pandemic under his belt, and he has undoubtedly evolved. Evan is making his Chicago cabaret debut with something a bit different….just because!

From Ariana Grande to Celine Dion to Rufus Wainwright, “Just Because…” promises to give you a fresh, little slice of Evan.

$15 cover charge with a two drink minimum.

Vaccination card and mask required for entry.
