Opera love letter to COVID workers

Working In Concert’s Bellissima Opera premieres "On Call: COVID-19." Librettist (and CCP member) Christine Steyer drew inspiration from 200 articles about healthcare workers facing the COVID-19 pandemic around the world.

From the moment the music begins with Gwendolyn Brown's opening aria as a Chicago nurse, you will lean in to this intimate story of medics striving to cope with the unknown and the unfair vestiges of the pandemic. The opera’s three scenes look in on a series of “Zoom” calls by medics from Chicago, Seoul, Rio de Janeiro, Lombardy, New York City, and a Syrian refugee camp near Beirut as they seek to support each other throughout the year, learning that compassion and kindness have healing powers as much as vaccines and ventilators.

The one-hour opera will be followed by an artist meet&greet, open to those who make an additional modest donation.
