Good Morning Heartache: The Music of Irene Higginbotham

Bandleader, vocalist, and "tune-detective," Christy Bennett present the culmination of 5 years of research on songwriter Irene Higginbotham in an immersive experience at Constellation Chicago. Irene Higginbotham was an incredible songwriter from the 40s who worked with Louis Armstong and Nat "King" Cole but never got her due. Bennet's group Fumée recorded an album of her music that will be released at this performance. In the performance, Irene's life story will be told through her music and video collages that capture the emotion of each event. Each piece is connected to a voiceover from Irene's family members reading articles and anecdotes related to the story. The performance features a new 8-piece ensemble and arrangements by Ethan Philion.
