About Spider Saloff:
Chicago’s highly acclaimed, multi-award-winning vocalist and comedian, Spider Saloff, uses her spectacular voice, incredible range, and wildly entertaining stage presence to mesmerize her audiences during her stellar performances.
Recognized as one of the great interpreters of the American Songbook, Saloff has won accolades around the world for her introspective yet comedic approach to the jazz genre, most profoundly through her one-woman tribute to George Gershwin, The Memory of All That, which was conceived with the blessing of the Gershwin estate and headlined the Gershwin Centennial in St. Petersburg, Russia. She has composed multiple concert tributes that include Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and Stephen Sondheim to name a few, as well as being endorsed by the estates of the Gershwins, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin.
She’s also been heard around the world as the host and star of the syndicated public radio series Words and Music. But for thousands, the most familiar way to enjoy Saloff has been through her live performances, which include Poznan Poland Jazz Fest, The Pheasantry in London, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Overture Center, The Auditorium Theater, The Smithsonian Institution, Ravinia Music Festival, and multiple other venues both in the U.S. and globally.
At the famed Chicago Jazz Festival, she’s performed to audiences of more than 26,000 in Chicago’s Millennium Park. Whether it’s a full symphony orchestra or an intimate jazz group accompanying her, Saloff delivers a truly memorable performance.
Currently, she can be seen regularly at Winter’s Jazz Club in Chicago. Among her numerous night club engagements are The Green Mill and Jazz Showcase in Chicago and Birdland, Iridium, and Feinstein’s in New York. During her residence in New York City, she achieved rave reviews and was awarded five MAC Awards (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) and two Bistro Awards by the New York press.
As composer, playwright, and actress, Saloff wrote and performed a one-woman musical, The Roar of the Butterfly, which played in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Melbourne, Australia. Her original song “When You See Me,” a jazz/R&B tune, has garnered more than 103,000 views on YouTube.
Saloff has delivered masterclasses across the U.S. and Europe. She works with both private students and group classes. Her teaching philosophy is to work with the voice of each person to create a style that is unique and natural to their particular voice. Students have described working with her as “life changing”.
