Cry Me a River: The Music of Julie London

Julie London was an American nightclub, jazz and pop singer, film and television actress, and a former pinup model, whose career spanned five decades. She was noted for her smoky, sensual, husky voice and languid demeanor. While many know her as the character Dixie McCall, she released over 30 albums of pop and jazz standards during the 1950s and 1960s, with her signature song being the classic Cry Me a River. Other songs include Perfidia, Fly Me to the Moon, and Let There Be Love. She married songwriter and jazz pianist Bobby Troup ("Route 66") and later starred with him in the television drama Emergency! Billboard named her the most popular female vocalist for 1955, 1956, and 1957.

With music by Sondheim, Lennon & McCartney, the Sherman Brothers, Parton, and others, they weave in the story of women’s suffrage from second-class citizenship at the nation’s founding to the nail-biting final days in the fight for ratification of the 19th Amendment. Their debut show sold out, and after the pandemic postponed 2020 bookings, they developed a virtual show for all who can’t see it “live.”

Monday Night Live

MNL began in 2007 with a simple idea: provide professional and aspiring singers a sophisticated setting, an accomplished accompanist and an appreciative audience for them to try out new material, promote appearances, theatrical productions and new releases in an entertaining impromptu musical showcase. MNL has become one of the longest running open mic formats in Chicago. From jazz artists, cabaret performers, opera singers, pop vocalists and Tony-award nominees more than 700 musical talents have taken to the stage. Cast members from touring and local productions like "Hamilton", "Dear Evan Hanson", "Jesus Christ Superstar" and more from nearby theaters including The Goodman, The Lyric Opera, Porchlight Music Theatre, Kokandy Productions and Broadway in Chicago have long entertained Petterino's audiences.
