Chicago cabaret artists Catherine Thomson and Anita Kallen, the HERstory duo, are thrilled to be returning to Skokie Theatre with a new show for 2024 - #3 in their HERstory series. Audiences will remember their past musical celebrations of the 19th Amendment & Voting Rights (HERstory I) and Trailblazing Women (HERstory II). This year Anita and Catherine are celebrating the famous and not-so-famous women songwriters who have contributed to Tin Pan Alley, the Great American Songbook, the Broadway canon, and contemporary popular music, with songs that span the decades. With music direction by the award-winning Beckie Menzie and percussion by Irwin Berkowitz, Anita and Catherine share songs by composers and lyricists from Carolyn Leigh, Dorothy Fields, and Dana Seusse, to Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Gloria Estefan, among others, and entertain audiences with inspiring stories of how these women became part of the soundtrack of our lives. College of Lake County, Auditorium A011
Celebrate Women‘s Equality Day with a free performance of HERstory: The 19th Amendment and the Power of the Vote! Thursday, August 22nd, 6:30 PM; College of Lake County, Auditorium A011, Grayslake, IL. Anita Kallen and Catherine Thomson (HERstoryMusicalShows.com) prove once again that “well-behaved women seldom make history.” They celebrate – in song and HERstory – the rabble-rousing pioneers who won the right to vote for the women of America and those fighting to preserve it today. With music by Sondheim, Lennon & McCartney, the Sherman Brothers, Parton, Schwartz, Porter, and others, Anita and Catherine weave in the story of women’s suffrage from second-class citizenship at the nation’s founding to the nail-biting final days in the fight for ratification of the 19th Amendment and to present-day efforts to preserve and maximize the power of women voting. In this presidential election year, join the HERstory duo to celebrate the power of the VOTE! Free admission; no registration required.
